The News Volvo Concept XC Coupé

Last September, the Volvo Concept Coupé was launched to critical acclaim and many awards, and represented the world’s first insight into Volvo Car Group’s (Volvo Cars) new design direction under Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath. It also showed one interpretation of how the proportions and versatility of Volvo Cars’ new Scalable Product Architecture, that will underpin all medium and large cars in the company’s future, could look.

The Concept Coupé was the first of three design studies. The next chapter in Volvo Cars’ new design story showcases how the company’s famous safety technology as well as a contemporary Scandinavian active lifestyle could be integrated into the new architecture. The Volvo Concept XC Coupé will make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on January 13, but full details including press release, videos and images will be published on January 8.

The Concept XC Coupé builds on Volvo’s proud history of Cross Country and XC products, with Volvo Cars having created the niche in 1997. And in anticipation of the full reveal of the car in early 2014, Volvo Cars now shares the first three images of the car as well as a short video on Volvo Cars’ YouTube channel.

NISSAN Establishes New Joint Venture in the Philippines

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (NML) announced the establishment of Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI), a new joint venture formed with long time partners Universal Motors Corporation (UMC) and Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) on 12th December.

NPI, to be headquartered in Manila, will start operations as the new national sales company for the Philippines from early 2014 and will be responsible for strengthening branding, marketing and sales strategy, and dealer operations in the Filipino market. NPI intends to reinforce brand and sales power by broadening the product lineup and strengthening sales and services across the nation.

“With the establishment of NPI, Nissan will proactively improve and enhance Nissan’s brand awareness inthe Philippines. We will introduce new and exciting products into the market and strive to improve total customer experience,” said Kenji Naito, the newly-assigned president of NPI.

Naito joined Nissan in 1985 and has held key positions in various markets including Japan, New Zealand and South Africa. From 2005 to 2008, he was vice president, corporate planning, at Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and most recently, served as CEO of Nissan Korea Co., Ltd.

The new company is capitalized at 1.0 billion yen (US$9.8 million), with Nissan holding a 51% stake in the company, while UMC and NMPI own 24.5% each. UMC and NMPI will remain as production sources of Nissan vehicles in the Philippines.

Nissan is committed to driving growth across the ASEAN region. A key target of the ASEAN mid-term plan is to more than triple sales across the region to 500,000 units and achieve 15% market share by the end of 2016. Nissan considers the Filipino market as an important component of this plan, and the establishment of NPI is an illustration of the company’s commitment to the Philippines.

“This is an important milestone for Nissan,” said Takayuki Kimura, regional vice president, NML. “With NPI now as the unified voice of Nissan in the Philippines, we will be bolder and more proactive in expanding our business in this market. I would like to thank UMC and NMPI for their accomplishments to date, and we look forward to continuing to build our presence in the Philippines through this new partnership.”

Nissan delivers a comprehensive range of more than 60 models under the Nissan and Infiniti brands. In 2010, Nissan introduced the Nissan LEAF, and continues to lead in zero-emission mobility. The LEAF, the first mass-market, pure-electric vehicle launched globally, is now the best-selling EV in history.

Bosch bares new innovations

Bosch Philippines presented its core products and services under the power tools, security systems, and thermotechnology divisions at the 2013 Philconstruct Trade Fair in Manila. Led by the Philippine Construction Association (PCA), PhilConstruct pooled 50,000 guests to witness new innovations from 500 local and international corporations.

With local enterprises becoming more aware of the impact of efficient building, security streamlining, and sustaining energy to business operations, Bosch is keen on aligning the competencies of its sectors to meet residential and commercial demands. For the first time since 2006, Bosch added the comprehensive security and thermotechnology solutions to its showcase in the annual event.

A passion for building
During the 4-day exhibition, Bosch bared the country’s widest range of power tools, which includes 7 product lines for Filipino professionals and hobbyists. Visitors were engaged in a series of exciting activities, namely a screwdriving challenge, Sia abrasives and accessories board challenge, and product testing.

Industry partner and renowned American brand Skil also featured its impressive set of affordable tools for every craftsman. For 88 years, Skil has set a standard for practical and reliable products at competitive price points. But beyond the global brand are values that lead sustainable projects aimed at community development and youth engagement. With the support of local government units and Skil brand ambassador Norman Black, its Paint the Town Red grassroots campaign has now turned over 20 basketball half-courts in key cities in the Philippines.

The Power Tools division also displayed its new line of rotary tools and accessories from American brand Dremel. Targeting trade craftsmen and hobbyists, the Dremel line includes tools and accessories for engraving, sharpening, cutting, polishing, sanding, and more. Dremel merchandise can now be purchased through its five Dremel Experts, namely Panda Construction in Luzon, Royal L in North Luzon, Summit in South Luzon, Cebu Atlantic in Visayas, and JH Hardware in Mindanao.

Streamlining security
Properties, people, and investments are also a priority in expanding infrastructures in the Philippines and this has prompted Bosch to extend its Security Systems division in 2011. Bosch carries a broad portfolio, which includes fire alarm, public address, and video surveillance systems that allow convenience, reliability, and durability.

Bosch continues to uphold the value of safety by integrating superior security systems and solutions not only in large but also in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). Early this year, Bosch further enhanced the division’s range with the Advantage Line, which features quality innovations at affordable costs.

The Advantage Line Bullet Cameras, FAP 420 Series Fire Detectors, and Electro-Voice ZLX 12P Speakers were among the many featured products from Bosch’s unbridled business line.

Efficient energy facilities
As a pioneer in product development, Bosch produces technologies with uncompromising power and performance that also conserve natural resources. The company promotes energy efficiency in processes and lifestyle across the globe by sharing its expertise in thermotechnology.

With smart products designed for cleaner and greener environments, Bosch is able to introduce its customers to environment friendly advantages. The thermotechnology line includes water source and geothermal heat pumps, solar thermal systems, and complete hydronic solutions such as the Universal Steam Boiler UL-S and UL-SX.

“The local construction & property industry is upbeat and has registered a significant growth value in the past year. This resulted to higher consumer confidence and more trade prospects for Bosch. With other divisions on board, we are able to cover all corners for business success –engineering, security, and energy efficiency,” said William Go, Country Sales Director, Bosch Power Tools, Robert Bosch, Inc..

Advanced technology is coupled with unrivaled commitment to its users. Bosch’s service-oriented approach aims to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Strong local distribution channels and service networks reliably bring forth a competitive set of maintenance and repair solutions to professional tradespeople and craftsmen.
