ASUS ZenPad 7.0 (Z370CG) First Impressions

The ZenPad C (Z170CG) isn’t the only 7-inch tablet that was present during the launch of ASUS ZenPads in the country. It shared the stage with its more feature-packed counterpart, the ASUS ZenPad 7.0 (Z370CG).

The Z370CG looks like a slightly wider and thicker ZenPad C. And by slight, we mean 2mm wider and 0.3mm thicker than its entry-level sibling which is barely noticeable even at close range.

The tablet’s Gorilla Glass-laden 7-inch WXGA display occupies most of the real estate at the front with a cluster of components at the top comprising of a sensor, secondary camera and an earpiece that also doubles as a front-mounted DTS Premium Sound loudspeaker.

The placement of the buttons and ports, as well as the rear camera on the ZenPad 7 follows the same layout of its meeker cousin – audio jack at the top, microUSB at the bottom and volume rocker on the right side neighbored by the power button.

Even the location of the Micro-SIM card slot and memory card slot are identical, but instead of tucked underneath a plastic flap, it can be accessed by removing the tablet’s rear cover.

Doing the heavy lifting for the ZenPad 7 is the new 64-bit Intel Atom x3- C3230 quad-core processor with Mali-450 MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It’s the same setup found on the ZenPad C, albeit with lesser RAM.

Asus ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170CG) specs:
7-inch WSVGA IPS display, 1024×600 @169ppi
Intel Atom x3-C3230 64-bit quad-core processor
ARM Mali 450 MP4
1GB RAM
Expandable 16GB internal storage
Supports up to 64GB via microSD card
Dual-SIM
3G/HSPA+
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Miracast
Bluetooth 4.0
2MP rear camera
0.3MP front-facing camera
1x DTS HD Premium Sound speaker
13WHr Lithium Polymer battery
GPS w/ A-GPS, GLONASS
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Dimension: 189 x 108 x 8.4 mm
Weight: 265 grams

For what it’s worth, we think that the Asus ZenPad 7.0 (Z370CG) is a more viable option compared to the ZenPad C. If your budget would allow that extra Php2,000 you’ll get a better display and loudspeaker, more pixel-packed cameras and twice the RAM capacity.

The ASUS ZenPad 7.0(Z370CG) is now available locally for Php7,995.
