The pioneer of the SAV segment and globally best-selling car in its class, the BMW X5, is entering a new chapter in its successful history. The third-generation X5 sees BMW once again setting the benchmark for powerful design, interior spaciousness and luxury, versatility, driving pleasure, efficiency and innovative equipment features.

Exterior Design: an elegant blend of robust presence and dynamic flair.
Signature BMW design features combine with undeniable presence, robustness and versatility to lend BMW X models their distinctive appearance. The proportions of the new BMW X5 are defined by a short front overhang, long wheelbase, upright A-pillars and the short distance between the front axle and instrument panel. The particularly muscular design of the BMW kidney grille, set within the triangle of the twin circular headlights and front foglamps, and the bumper’s X-shaped contour lines also mark it out as a member of the BMW X model family. The new BMW X5 models are equipped with xenon headlights.

The front apron, with side air intakes positioned far to its outer edges, draws further attention to the wide track and planted stance of the new BMW X5. And the car’s striking underbody protection elements provide a further nod to its robust and versatile character.

Air Curtains
Drag-reducing Air Curtains make their debut on BMW X models. These vertical apertures guide the inflowing air around the wheel arches, where it creates a curtain of air over the wheels before making a controlled escape through the Air Breathers in the side panels. The design of the BMW X5’s flanks shines a particularly clear spotlight on the car’s power and sporting ability.

Interior Design: high-quality materials, luxurious ambience, cutting-edge functionality.
The interior of the new BMW X5 is both elegant and generously sized. The horizontal structure of the layered surfaces underlines the broad sweep of the instrument panel and therefore also the impressive amount of space available on board. Plus, the three-dimensional design of the surfaces also generates vibrant contrasts. The ambient lighting designs included in the lighting package lend extra emphasis to the visual unity between the instrument panel and door panels. LED units arranged in a wrap-around contour line and featuring in other areas of the interior create an alluring effect. Blue, white and orange light can be selected either individually or in nine pre-stored combinations via the iDrive system.

Astute Individualization: Design Pure Experience and Design Pure Excellence for the exterior and interior.
Two new “design worlds” for the exterior and interior of the new BMW X5 can be ordered as an alternative to the standard specification, enabling an astutely judged level of personalization. Each package represents a harmonious blend of design, colors and materials. The design worlds for the exterior and interior can be selected independently. In addition, the design worlds also encompass the new-look remote control key with operating buttons in an extremely high-quality design.

Design Pure Experience: presence and robustness
With stylistic underbody protection elements in brushed stainless steel, newly designed air intake bars in matt silver and a rear trim strip which, like the kidney grille bars, comes in matt silver, the Design Pure Experience package adds distinctive touches to the exterior and once again emphasizes the SAV character of the BMW X5. This design world also includes exterior mirror bases and B-pillar and C-pillar trim in high-gloss black, as well as BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium satinated trim for the side windows. The exhaust tailpipe embellishers have a matt chrome finish. This line uses a dark yet warm color scheme to bring a classically stylish and luxurious ambience to the interior of the new BMW X5.

Design Pure Excellence: modern and luxurious.
The Design Pure Excellence line for the exterior includes stylistic underbody protection elements and wheel arch surrounds painted in the respective body color, black kidney grille bars with high-gloss chrome fronts, T-shaped bars for the outer air intakes and louvers for the lower aperture, plus a chrome trim strip for the rear apron and Chrome Line Exterior adornments for the side windows. The exterior mirror bases, B-pillars and C-pillars all feature high-gloss black trim.

Versatile Interior.
With its luxurious ambience and enhanced ride comfort, spaciousness and seating comfort, the new BMW X5 offers noticeable advances over its predecessor. Added to which, the array of possible uses for its generously sized interior has grown once again.

The two additional seats are easy to access thanks to an Easy Entry function and a grip plate by the C-pillar. They can be lowered separately into the load compartment floor, are designed primarily for passengers measuring a maximum 1.50 meters in height and come with inertia-reel seat belts.

The new BMW X5 also comes with a split two-section tailgate, the lower element of which can be folded down horizontally to form a single level with the load surface. Automatic tailgate operation for the upper section is a standard feature. And now, for the first time, the tailgate can be closed as well as opened using the remote control and, at the touch of a button, from the driver’s seat.

Engines: more driving enjoyment and efficiency.
As the first ever Sports Activity Vehicle, the BMW X5 continues to set the trends and standards in its segment, with the accent firmly on driving enjoyment and efficiency. The improvement is down to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which in addition to twin turbochargers and High Precision Injection direct petrol injection now also includes VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, resulting in improved response and efficiency.

The new BMW X5 xDrive30d, with its six-cylinder in-line diesel engine, incorporates a range of detail improvements that offer an even better balance than before between performance and fuel consumption.

The sporty temperaments of the latest diesel engines finds even more potent expression in the BMW X5 M50d. This M Performance Automobile likewise gets a 3.0-litre straight-six unit, in this case featuring M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology with three-stage turbocharging. The three turbochargers work in harmony to maximize power output.

BMW EfficientDynamics.
All engines in the new BMW X5 line-up are combined as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission, whose high internal efficiency, precision and short shift times help to improve both efficiency and driving enjoyment. In vehicles with the eight-speed sports automatic transmission, the new “launch control” function is also available, a high-precision traction control system which allows engine power to be translated as efficiently as possible into road speed when accelerating from standstill.

BMW EfficientDynamics features include Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start Stop function, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, low roll-resistance tires and a variety of weight- and drag-reducing features. Intelligent lightweight design also means that the significantly increased standard specification compared with the previous model does not translate to increased vehicle weight.

The BMW X5 also offers best-in-class aerodynamic design. Active upper and lower front air flap control, Air Curtains, the Air Breather system, vertical aero blades at the rear window, air deflectors on the front wheel arches and a range of other detail improvements reduce the drag coefficient (Cd).

Adjustable Chassis for Driving Enjoyment.
The new BMW X5 represents further evolution through incorporating refinements to the all-wheel-drive system and chassis technology. Using the standard-fitted Driving Experience Control switch on the centre console, the drive settings can be matched to the requirements of the moment or to different driving situations.

BMW xDrive in the New BMW X5.
The new BMW X5 is also equipped with xDrive full-time intelligent all-wheel drive, which actively manages the drive power split between the front and rear wheels at all times. The latest version of the xDrive power divider boasts optimized efficiency and a 1.4 kg reduction in weight.

xDrive provides top-class traction and stability whatever the road and weather conditions, and also offers improved cornering dynamics, suppressing oversteer or understeer before the driver is even aware of the need.

BMW closed 2013 with a total of 653 units sold, accounting for a 34% market share. This closely mirrors the performance of BMW Global, who closed 2013 with a record of 1,655,128 vehicles sold, an all-time high for the brand, posting a 7.5% increase from the previous year’s performance.

Solidifying unbeatable leadership in 2013

At the end of 2012, BMW achieved its greatest milestone yet in the Philippine market by celebrating its Decade of Leadership – a feat of having ten solid years of being number one in the premium luxury segment.

In 2013, BMW further solidified its brand value by once again taking the market leadership with its core values – to provide its clientele with unparalleled Joy and sheer driving pleasure through its products and services. A testament to this strength was evident in the month of July, when BMW posted its highest sales record for the year, with a total of 93 units sold. This accounted for 49% market share of the premium segment.

For the very first time, the BMW 5 Series rose to the top of the chain, surpassing its siblings as the most successful model for 2013. The 5 Series closed the year with a total of 213 units sold, accounting for 32.57% of overall BMW sales in the country. It was a remarkable year for the 5 Series as it surpassed BMW’s bread and butter model, the 3 Series. The 5 Series’ performance has shown an increase year over year, posting a 52% growth as compared to 2011 with 140 units sold and a 10% growth from 2012 with 194 units sold. This is a testament to the Philippines’ ever changing and continuously evolving market, which speaks volumes about the desirability and superiority of the 5 Series.

Through BMW’s commitment in providing sheer driving pleasure, new products and innovations were launched as we saw a refreshed and updated version of the very first compact Sports Activity Vehicle in the luxury market, the BMW X1. After a few months, we saw the launch of the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo – a vehicle that offers the best of the 3-Series that many have come to adore over a span of almost four decades, but with the space, versatility, and practicality that a modern day BMW client would look for.

A commitment to Joy in the Philippine market

BMW continues to expand its network of dealerships as a testament to their commitment and belief in the Philippine market.

BMW broke ground for its biggest dealership project to date. BMW Bonifacio Global City, which is envisioned to be completed by the end of 2015, will house the largest BMW showroom in the ground floor of a 23-storey building located at the heart of one the country’s most elite business districts. Once completed, BMW Bonifacio Global City will also house the ACC corporate headquarters.

In this same year, BMW inaugurated its eighth dealership in the country – AutoAllee BMW in Eton Centris, North EDSA. A three-story structure housed in a 1,900 square meter lot area, AutoAllee boasts of the most complete and premium line-up of services in the BMW network of dealerships. New features of the dealership include a new car delivery area, the only air-conditioned service assessment area in the country, a two-car service elevator, a six-car service garage, an Isetta bar on its second floor, and a full BMW Premium Selection showroom in its third floor.

Taking to heart the promise of Joy, BMW held its annual BMW XPO. For the XPO, BMW partnered with the Philippine Red Cross, in a charitable effort to raise funds for the victims of the most destructive typhoon to ever make landfall on Philippine soil. In lieu of crisis management, BMW lent out a fleet of X vehicles to assist in transporting goods in support of the Philippine Red Cross’ relief efforts.

Broadening the reach of sheer driving pleasure

2013 also saw the launch of BMW FlexiLease, the pioneering leasing program in the Philippines that offers flexibility for individuals who want to experience precision driving machines from Bavaria without having to worry about service and maintenance costs.

In its pioneering year, 98 units were sold through the FlexiLease program, accounting for 15% of BMW sales for 2013, spearheaded by the 3 series, 5 series and the 1 series respectively.
