This is the latest acquisition in our gadget collection — the Parrot AR Drone 2.0. It’s a WiFi-controlled quadricopter with a built-in HD video recorder that stores directly into the smartphone or tablet.
We first saw this during CES but have not found a local store that carries it and supports warranty. Fortunately, the new gadget store (named Pismo) at the East Wing of the newly renovated EDSA Shangri-la had a lot of them on stock.
Earlier this year, we also bought a large toy helicopter thinking that we can hook up a GoPro Hero 3 in it to record areal videos. The Parrot AR Drone has a built-in video camera that records up to 720p.
While reviewing the Nokia Lumia 925, we also attempted to attach the smartphone in the Drone and it was able to lift it with ease.
The Drone 2.0 comes with two chassis — one for indoor which has a styrofoam enclosure on all four rotors (to secure the blades away from humans) and another one for outdoors with the blades exposed.
Here’s a demo video we took over the week-end.
We’ll be doing more test videos and share them with you.
The Parrot AR Drone 2.0 sells for Php18,790 over at Pismo, EDSA Shang-rila.
