The world’s thinnest phone (at the time of this writing) has arrived in the Philippines — the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra. The device packs a 4.65-inch 720p display, an 8MP camera, a dual-core CPU and Android 4.1 Jellybean, all in a 6.45mm body.
The Ultra sports an AMOLED panel and we were very impressed with the contrast and the saturation, just like with other AMOLED panels. Everything was also smooth and responsive, thanks to the 1GB RAM And Jellybean. However, there is no microSD card support, so you’re stuck with the 16GB internal memory.
The feel of the device is streamlined and premium; it doesn’t feel like it’s going to break in half despite the thin-ness. The Idol Ultra comes in other colors, but what we got here is red with matte finish. It looks like it could attract some dirt, but aside from that, this is one solidly built device.
Alcatel made sure they had Android 4.1 Jellybean on all its handset line-up. The camera is nothing impressive as we took average shots in low-light environment (we have yet to fully test that in detail).
We can’t really express the thinness of the device in words, so we have one last shot for you — one beside a knife and a Galaxy Note 2.
