Acer Liquid Z3 Quick Review

The war between affordable Android phones is far from over. With a price under the Php5k mark, the Acer Liquid Z3 becomes a worthy look with its decent specs & hardware in the package, but is it a worthy buy? Find out in our quick review so read on.

Acer Liquid Z3

Let’s start with the design. Acer, for some reason, made a flip cover come with the phone out of the box. It’s attached on the back casing and goes all the way through the left to the front. The flip cover, which is a major part of the phone’s design, is really well built. Blending in is also not a problem as it feels just as good as the rest of the phone – matte, plastic, glass & compact.

Acer Liquid Z3

On top you’ll find the slightly hard to reach power button & the audio port while on the left are the volume keys. The micro USB port is found on the bottom.

Acer Liquid Z3

Now I have a few gripes about my experience with the handset. First of all, the device is compact and easy to manage – however, the screen is small at 3.5-inches and is at a low resolution of 320 x 480. Everything was hard to make up with in the display, made worse by a bad viewing angle. All of that translates to a very poor impression as local phones have spoiled us already with at least 720p. On the bright side, colors looked vibrant though.

Acer Liquid Z3

As for the multimedia capabilities of the phone, they are actually pretty decent. The camera works averagely for its price, though the lack of LED flash might be bothering to some. The speakers were okay with volume & quality. And just like we’ve said before, this isn’t ideal for viewing probably anything detailed – because of the low-res display.

  • Nenamark 2 - 49.2

Acer Liquid Z3

Performance with the Liquid Z3 seemed a little slow when in apps; there were delays and other stutters. In the lockscreen and basic UI navigation scenes, it worked smoothly however thanks to the dual-core CPU & the low-res display (meaning less pixels to push).

Battery seemed solid in our use for the most part as it lasted for so many days on standby and even when the screen was on along with WiFi.

Acer Liquid Z3 specs:
3.5-inch 320 x 480 LCD display, 165ppi
1GHz dual-core Mediatek MT6572 CPU
512MB RAM
4GB internal memory, micro SD support
3.15 megapixel camera
WiFi
Bluetooth
FM Radio
Android 4.2 Jellybean
1,500mAh
120g (weight)
109 x 60 x 10.4 mm (dimensions)

Acer Liquid Z3

Summary:

To cut it short, the Acer Liquid Z3 could have and would have been an amazing phone if it was released probably a year ago. It offers a great balance of things from the vibrant display, the good camera & the solid build quality along with the flip cover. The big catch with that however is – for Php4,490, you can get much better options with the competition – ones that don’t run on low-resolution displays & ones that are using quad-core MediaTek chips instead of the dual-core kind.

What we liked about it:

  • Good camera
  • Vibrant Display
  • Ergonomic build
  • Flip cover is amazingly built with the device
  • Long battery

What we didn’t like about it:

  • No LED flash
  • Low-res display
  • Slowdowns in apps
  • Outdated specs
