Meizu MX4 Pro to launch with 2K display and 4GB RAM?

Lazada Philippines

After unveiling the Meizu MX4 last week, it seems that the Chinese manufacturer is also planning to come out with different variants just like the big players we see today. A leak suggests that an MX4 Pro is on its way which is a tough version with an upgraded display, better camera, and a whopping 4GB of RAM.

Meizu MX4 Pro alleged specs:
5.36-inch touchscreen display @ 2560 x 1536 resolution
Exynos 5430 octa-core processor (4x 2.6GHz Cortex-A17, 4x 2.1GHz Cortex-A15)
4GB RAM
16/32/64GB internal storage
20.7MP rear camera
13MP front camera
Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802/11ac
4G LTE
143 x 74.1 x 7.9mm

In comparison with the current Meizu MX4:
5.36-inch Full HD IPS display @ 1920 x 1152 resolution, 418ppi
Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Aircraft-grade aluminum frame
MediaTek MT6595 processor (quad-core 2.2GHz Cortex-A17 and quad-core 1.7GHz Cortex-A7)
PowerVR G6200 GPU
2GB RAM
16GB, 32GB, 64GB internal storage
20.7MP rear camera with Sony IMX 220 Exmor RS BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, dual-tone LED flash
4K video recording, 720p slow motion feature
2.1MP front camera
Bluetooth 4.0
GPS, GLONASS, Wi-Fi
3G, LTE
147 grams
3100mAh battery
Android 4.4 KitKat with Flyme 4.0
Colors: Gray, gold, and white

Now as for the processor of the MX4 Pro there must’ve been some discrepancy in writing the leaked specs since the Exynos 5430 chipset uses the tandem of Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 (not A17). We’ll just have to wait for the official specs coming from Meizu to be sure. Nevertheless, the Pro version of the MX4 is shaping up to be a spec monster. We’re looking forward at how much the company will position this device in terms of price. Stay tuned.

LG G3 confirmed with 2K WQHD display, but 640 DPI?

Sony, Samsung, and HTC have all unveiled their frontrunners and all that’s left from the big Android manufacturers is LG. The South Korean company has already confirmed that the soon-to-be-released LG G3 will in fact come with 2K display, but a benchmark photo shows the display to have 640dpi which is a bit unbelievable.

lg-g3-2560x1440-640dpi-display

The benchmarked smartphone above was reported 99.99% to be the LG G3, and it shows that the device will be running on Adreno 330 GPU side-by-side a Qualcomm processor so it’s just logical to assume it will be a Snapdragon 801. Partner those with its WQHD screen display and we have a flagship phone in our hands.

The thing that caught our attention, though, is that it has 640dpi which doesn’t makes sense if the device is 5.5 inches as expected. For a display to have 640dpi with 2560 x 1440 screen resolution, the screen size should be around 4.6 inches. Either this is a miscalculation or the display is really that small, but we’re going with the former on this one. For a 5.5-inch display, we’re looking at around 534 dots per inch.

For the arrival of the LG G3, release in June is still our best bet since a newer Snapdragon 805 processor is about to come in devices starting July.

Here’s a refreshed specs list that we could expect from the LG G3:

5.5-inch WQHD display @ 2560 x 1440 resolution
Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor
3GB RAM
32GB storage (expandable to 64GB via microSD)
13MP rear and 2.1MP front cameras
LTE/EVDO/IS2000
GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Android 4.4.2 KitKat

QHD AMOLED screen, the future of displays?

1080p used to be the highest screen resolution there was for mobile phones, but a new kind of display panel now takes its place in terms of pixel count. The first ever QHD AMOLED display has arrived and it brings a 2560 x 1440 screen resolution along with it.

2k resolution

The credit doesn’t go to Samsung or LG as they are expected to come out with devices boasting 2K displays. Instead, Taiwan-based AU Optronics pioneers in developing  and distributing a 5.7-inch panel which holds the record for having the highest resolution. As mentioned earlier, the screen boasts 2560 x 1440 screen resolution accompanied by an impressive pixel density of 517ppi. The display is also thin at only 0.57mm.

This only backs up the reports and rumors of upcoming devices sporting 2K displays. Not only that, there’s also a big chance that it might be the standard for flagship phones in the future. The question is, do we really need over 2K resolution on 5-inch smartphones?
