And I’m still 20-something

Justin and Big Buddha
This is my nephew Justin

Yes, I am still 20-something. I just passed the so-called quarter-life crisis stage. To make things less obvious, here’s some math equation for you:

1/4 x (100) + 1^100

Gone are the days that my parents spend money on my birthday party. So, I treated them at Big Buddha at Greenbelt 3 yesterday since it was a holiday and because I have work today.

The first person who greeted me was five days earlier (our family friend Anna Liao). The second person who greeted me was two days earlier (someone from Friendster). The third and the fourth persons who greeted me were my former billiards and drinking buddies (Kat and Josh). Next to them is my family who greeted me one day earlier because of my lunch treat to them. I got a hundred bucks worth of Starbucks Gift Certificate from my brother that he got for free (take note… free).

Noreen, me, Normz, Rachelle, Ace, Gretch, Jaja

The first gift that I got for myself is a Paramita CD at the Paramita Sophomore Album Launch. Of course, seeing Norman perform once again is priceless. D Seeing Jaja, Noreen, Ace, Gretch, Rachelle, Ycoy and her ate is priceless as well. Getting nostalgic with Normz, Jaja and Noreen plus the Ragnarok boys is priceless as well. D Of course I did not tell them that my birthday is coming up since I may go home broke. Hehe. D

I’ll still be going out with my closest friends this week for a celebration. )

Paramita’s self-titled Sophomore Album Launch at Saguijo

Paramita

It was great to see Ria Bautista, Alsey Cortez and Marco de Leon, all from Paramita, perform again since the last time that I saw them was 2007 in one of their mag:net Bonifacio High Street gigs. The album launch is the second leg of the two-part series where the first one was held in Route 196 which Rain Contreras covered.

I may have missed the other bands that performed in Route 196 such as Urbandub, Nyctinasty and Radioactive Sago Project. But seeing Norman Dellosa (former guitarist of Paramita and former vocalist and guitarist of Silent Sanctuary) perform with Ria and Alsey is like traveling back to the past. This is what they’ve missed. D I’ve been friends with Ria and Norman even before Day One of Paramita and actually helped them in the band’s debut gig.

The bands who were in the line-up of the second leg of their album launch is Reklamo, Up Dharma Down and Giniling Festival. Paramita’s 2nd album was released under Terno Recordings while the first one was with Vicor Records.

The album contains ten tracks which features their single “Lisan” (first single from their album) and their newest single “Sa Piling Nya”.

Pupil at MTV Sessions

Smiling Ely Buendia

I was at the MTV Sessions earlier and after a long time, I was able to watch Pupil again. D The mini-concert was not really shot live. In fact, they have to play the songs “Matador” and “Animal Lover” again since the MTV guys weren’t able to shoot it. D

Ely Buendia sang two Eraserheads songs namely, “Overdrive” and “Pare Ko”. When Ely was playing the intro of Overdrive, I already knew that they’re going to play it. )

Most of the songs that they played came from their second album “Wildlife” and a couple of songs from their first album “Beautiful Machines”.

I’m not sure when it will be aired but you might see me there holding my camera. D

Get well soon Karl Roy

Download this podcast

Anyway, it was too late when I learned of Karl Roy’s Benefit Concert. In case you do not know, Karl Roy suffered a number of strokes. More details about this issue may be read in Jim Ayson’s blog post.

Karl Roy is one of the most prolific icons in the Pinoy rock scene. He’s the vocalist of the band Kapatid. The track being featured in this podcast is the song Luha which is included in Kapatid’s second album (Luha) that was released in 2006. I do hope that Karl Roy will get well soon.

Post-Earth Hour Special

This is my first try in podcasting and this show is called “One Track Special Podcast”. The podcast show aims to feature notable OPM and of course, in promoting it as well. The track featured in this podcast is Pupil’s “Disconnection Notice” from their album Wildlife.

Anyway, I was at Ayala Avenue earlier and while I was inside the jeep, I passed by a group of people at the Stock Exchange talking about the Earth Hour. I noticed that the lights were turned off in that area. However, when I passed by the SM covered parking lot/FX Terminal, not all of the lights were turned on like the way it used to be. I guess this is because of security concerns. )

Obviously, not everyone participated in the Earth Hour. All open establishments in Better Living have lights on. I’m just not sure if they’re aware of it or just they ignored it. When I arrived at home, I noticed that the lights were not turned off. I just saw my nephews on the sofa playing PSP. My brother only remembered that the lights was supposed to be turned off at about 15 minutes before the clock strikes 9pm. D

So, did you turn off the lights?
