Always backup your database..OK!

By Aurelie A. Peralta

I have already deployed two ASP.NET content management systems, the PSU Eastern Cluster Community Server (http://202.91.163.10/cs) and the Pangasinan State University Official Website (http://www.psu.edu.ph). Both websites uses Microsoft SQL Server, version 2000 for the Eastern Cluster Site and 2005 Express for the PSU Official Site. The Eastern Cluster Site’s database is working well since November 2006 and have not encountered any errors as of now. With the number of postings in the site, its database actually is a large one now. (more…)

The true essence of blogging

By Aurelie A. Peralta

Blogs are very interesting, informative and entertaining. It is one of the most beautiful ideas which have been conceptualized and realized in the Internet. With the different web technologies available, people find it easy nowadays to publish their thoughts and writings reaching a worldwide audience or readers. Of course, originality is what makes it valuable and admirable to the readers. (more…)

http://www.psu.edu.ph with its new look and feel

By Aurelie A. Peralta

The Pangasinan State University’s Official Website is powered by DotNetNuke, an open-source content management system that is built on ASP.NET technology and MS SQL Server 2005 Express back-end support. Before, PSU website uses the default DNN Blue Fixed-width skin and was very much simple that time.

With the abundant availability of nice DNN skins free for downloads, it is very easy to play around different DNN Site looks and feel. Some of these skins, especially those with top caliber designs are actually being sold while a lot with fair to quality looks are also being given free.

The best part is, you can actually create your own skins and make your website an originally-designed one. I happen to read a “How to create your own DNN skin” tutorial and discovered that it is actually not that complicated to create your own skins. You can start creating a simple one and then later transform your design into a more sophisticated design.

Now with some combinations of DNN skin designs, I changed the PSU Website’s look and feel with what it is right now. Visit the site and see what it becomes at http://www.psu.edu.ph. You can also open it directly at http://202.91.163.10/psu.edu.ph to skip the url redirection.
