Richard Lee, the CEO of Inventec, has confirmed to reporters that Xiaomi is indeed working on its first notebook PC which is expected to make its debut in the first or second quarter of 2016.
The confirmation that Lee recently made coincides with the previous rumors about a Xiaomi-made laptop. At the time of writing, Xiaomi remains tight-lipped about its plan of entering the portable computer segment, thus details about the hardware is scarce.
Inventec, particularly its subsidiary Inventec Appliances Corporation, have worked with Xiaomi in the past, handling the assembly of Xiaomi’s smartphones and tablets.
Lee is optimistic about the upcoming project, saying that “I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users”. He added that although he’s uncertain that the business model that Xiaomi has on its mobile device lineup will carry over to its new venture, he believes that Xiaomi will bring “something new to the market”.
