Staying true to their annual traditions of unveiling the a new smartphone every September, Apple has introduced the tenth generation of its famed smartphone line – the iPhone 6S.
As is expected on an “S” model, the new Apple iPhone 6S is more of a revamped version of the iPhone 6 rather than being an entirely different beast. Compared to the previous “S” models though, the iPhone 6S has seen the most improvements but not as significant compared to the non-S releases.
For starters the new handset now comes in the Rose Gold color, confirming the previous rumors. As for its body, Apple claims that it will now come with a new Aluminum chassis which hopefully is less prone to #BendGate that plagued the iPhone 6 Plus .
Next up are the new feature for the screen which include 3D Touch, Peek and Pop, Taptic Engine which basically differentiates a light screen tap from a full press.
As for its internals, the new iPhone 6S boasts the new Apple A9 64-bit chip which is touted to bring 70% better processing performance and 90-percent increase in graphics performance compared to A8. The new processor is complemented by an updated Apple M9 co-processor.
Moving on, the iPhone 6S is now equipped with an “All-new 12MP iSight Camera” which translates to a 50% more pixels compared to the previous model. Apple has also made some changes on the camera’s autofocus performance and has added a new feature called Deep Trench Isolation.
The idea behind Deep Trench Isolation is for the new 12-megapixel iSight camera to achieve better color reproduction and more accurate skin tone.
Instead of adding a secondary flash, like some of the newer selfie-centric Android smartphones, Apple thought that it’ll be better if the users can just take advantage of the light emitted by the handset’s screen. Enter the Retina Flash, a feature that allows the iPhone 6S’ screen to light up three-times brighter than normal which in turn allows it double as a secondary flash for the handset’s 5-megapixel FaceTime HD front camera.
The new iPhone 6S follows the same pricing scheme as its predecessor when it was first released. The base model with 16GB of on-board storage will retail for $199 which comes with two-year contract. Meanwhile the 64GB and 128GB models will retail for $299 and $399 respectively. The handset will be available starting on September 25.
