Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital’s workshop entitled “Bridging EUS into Clinical Practice” gives participants the change to experience conducting actual endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) procedures under direct guidance of experts.
Held on September 13 at OLLH’s Center for Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy, the said workshop was graced by local and international EUS (endoscopic ultrasonography) experts, including Kenjiro Yasuda, MD of Kyoto Second Red Cross Hospital, and local EUS experts Frederick T. Dy, MD (Course Director), Jonard T. Co, MD and Josef Carlo N. Lazaro, MD
The AEG, a common interest group composed of leading EUS experts in Asia, regularly holds highly specialized pocket workshops, seminars and symposiums intended for both practicing and aspiring gastroenterologists and endoscopists.
The mission of the group is to spread the discipline of Endoscopic Ultrasonography – the combination of Endoscopy and Ultrasound in a single instrument in order to obtain high-resolution images and information concerning the digestive tract, the surrounding tissues and organs; visualization of tumors and its staging, evaluating the pancreas, bile ducts and submucosal lesions. The group aims to promote professional development of practicing endosonographers in the Asian region.
For this year, the basic hands-on course at OLLH was attended by a small group of invited young gastroenterologists. This one-day course started with a brief introduction to EUS followed by a series of lectures on fundamentals of EUS. The participants were able to experience conducting actual EUS procedures under direct guidance of the experts.
The next EUS Workshop, to focus on Interventional/Therapeutic EUS, is set for next year.
