Hewlett Packard has announced that it will be offering free replacements for not less than 6 million affected laptop power cords bundled with select HP and Compaq laptops, mini notebook PCs, and some docking stations that was sold between September 2010 and June 2012.
The laptop power cord in question here is the LS-15 AC cord. Over 5,577,000 units were sold in the US alone, plus another 446,700 in Canada. Figures for other countries are not available as of the moment.
With 29 reports of overheating, melting and charring, HP wants their consumers to voluntarily surrender the faulty power cord for replacement. HP also stated that not all LS-15 AC cords are affected.
