The Nokia X software platform 2.0, which is now running in the recently announced Nokia X2, is based on Android 4.3 Jellybean (vs Android 4.1.2 on platform 1.x). It came with a lot of enhancements like a better home screen, simpler navigation, better multitasking, new camera UI, improved keyboard, and the Fastlane notifications screen.

The bad news is, Nokia X, X+, and XL users, won’t get to enjoy the new features due to hardware limitations. However, it will still receive maintenance updates to keep them running smoothly.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months.” – Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.

So if you’re just planning on getting the Nokia X, better hold off and just wait for the Nokia X2.
