After months of petition and protest, jeepney drivers finally got the fare increase but not the P10 minimum they wanted.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved a fare hike of 50-centavo for the minimum distance of 4-kilometer starting June 14. There will be a 10-centavo increase also for every succeeding kilometers. From P1.40, it will be P1.50.
There is also something different with the new fare matrix, there are reports that say, “children less than one meter in height shall be transported free of charge, and those from 1 to 1.30 meters in height shall pay half the fare.” In line with that, operators must provide visible markings for height verification.
The increase will be effective in the National Capital Region (NCR), Region 3, and Region 4. The agency is still implementing the 20% discount for the students and PWD.
