Microsoft has announced that it will soon change the name of its cloud storage platform, SkyDrive, to OneDrive.
The renaming was due to a trademark issue with a British broadcasting company, BSkyB. You can read all about it here. On the bright side, this shouldn’t cause any problems since it’s just the service’s name that Microsoft is changing.
“Of course, changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy. We believe the new OneDrive name conveys the value we can deliver for you and best represents our vision for the future. We are excited about what is to come, and can’t wait to share more.” said Microsoft in a blog post.
Current users of either SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro shouldn’t worry as the service will continue to operate and all of the user’s content will be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business once the new name rolls out.
