SUPERTYHOON YOLANDA (international name Haiyan) has rendered all radio stations and local media outlets in Leyte province inoperable, and caused significant damage to many other media outlets throughout the Visayas.
The supertyphoon has also so far claimed the lives of four local journalists, and swept away the homes of dozens more of our colleagues in the industry.
To help local Visayas mediamen get back on their feet, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines has reactivated “Tabang (Help) Media.”
“Let’s reach out and bridge the gap,” the NUJP called on media outlets.
The NUJP also urges Manila-based and international media networks to hire our colleagues in Eastern Visayas to be their news stringers/correspondents in the field to help them help themselves.
You can ask for details and the list of media workers affected in Eastern Visayas by emailing to nujphil@gmail.com.
