BlackBerry Jam Asia starts today here at the AsiaWorldExpo in Hong Kong where the company gathers hundreds of developers across Asia Pacific.
The BlackBerry developer community in Asia is growing with over 37% of the apps in the BB App World are coming from this region.
Since the introduction of the BB 10 OS, paid users have made 5x purchases compared to the old BB OS. The revenue has also increased 7 times per user.
BlackBerry also announced the launching of Sina Weibo in BB 10 giving access to 500 million registered users of Weibo in China, 70% of which are using the service on mobile. Weibo is the Twitter equivalent in China.
It is now incorporated in the BB account settings and the BlackBerry Hub. It should be available for download in BlackBerry World in a few days.
Tencent also launched their WeChat app in the BlackBerry, initially in China and should be available internationally.
BlackBerry showed us a live demo of the health monitor where a user’s heart rate monitor can be shown on the BB 10 device and then shared to another device (probably your gym instructor or doctor) via NFC for the pairing and then hand-over to WiFi for streaming.
Also available today on BlackBerry World is the Say It app, a device assistant that works almost the same and popularized by Siri on iOS.
They also showed us a demo of a rocking chair ping-pong where two players can control the game on a Q5 by rocking the chair. They also rigged the chair with a hair blower and an incandescent lamp that players can trigger to distract the opponent.
Lastly, the company’s campaign for Made for BlackBerry First apps is in full swing and they’re giving out the limited edition red Z10 to developers who submit more apps by end of October.
That’s a wrap and we’re heading off to the demo venue to check out the BlackBerry Z30.
