Lenovo has recently hit another milestone in the world of personal computing when it overtook Hewlett-Packard (HP) and became the top PC vendor in the world.
Accroding to IDC and Gartner, Lenovo has a total of 12,677,265 units shipped during the 2nd quarter of this year, amounting to a total market share of 16.7%. HP took the second spot with a total of 12,402,887 units shipped or equal to 16.3% market share. Dell on the other hand landed on the third spot with almost 9 million units shipped at 11.8% market share, followed by Acer and ASUS.
It also worth noting that this quarter’s shipments from major PC vendors listed above are fewer compared to last year’s. A sign that the market is still in a slow decline.
“The PC market is changing, but it still represents a $200b opportunity. Lenovo can capture more of this opportunity than our competitors because we have built great balance over the last 4 years.” said Yang Yuanqing, Chairman & CEO of Lenovo. “PC leadership is just one milestone in a longer journey to become a true leader in the “PC Plus” market, which includes tablets, smart phones, smart TVs and other “smart connected” devices.”
