Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan marked its second anniversary silently on June 20, 2008. There was no fanfare, no party. We just greeted each other on-air and had a very simple lunch at the office courtesy of Aksyon Ilet. For one, we were not complete then. Four of our reporters and announcers — Susan Yadao, Owen Reyes, Cisco Jay Flores and Ding Servito — were at the former Clark Air Base in Angeles City attending a broadcast workshop under the auspices of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas. And as they were about to return home that Sunday morning, typhoon Frank caught up with them.
We take pride in having our staff attend training programs of the KBP. Last year, Freddie Fajardo was in the KBP seminar on reporting on the bird-flu virus in Pampanga. Our station manager, Ging Cardinoza, had just came from the Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University for the five-day on-campus component of his Diploma in Radio Journalism course. He will soon begin with the third module of the course and hopes to finish the program in September.
Upgrading our individual capabilities has always been a must in Aksyon Radyo. This is to improve our broadcasting skills to optimize our service to you, our listeners.
