Chevron Week of Caring volunteers help build homes for indigent families
Volunteers from Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of the Caltex fuel and lubricants and its business partners, helped build two-storey row houses at Habitat for Humanity’s project site in Quezon City. For three hours, the Chevron volunteers mixed concrete, tied rebars, hauled cement and layered hollow blocks with help from 15 Habitat home partners. The housing project is expected to yield 68 units of row houses and 150 units of two-storey walk-up apartments, which will be the future homes of 266 indigent families upon its completion in 2016.
“The Chevron volunteers’ participation for this half-day activity already accounts for P28,000 in saved labor costs and construction materials, that’s a huge help.” said Site Volunteer Coordinator of Habitat for Humanity Ving Mayoralgo.
The activity is part of the energy company’s annual Week of Caring, an advocacy in which employees exemplify volunteerism and diversity in communities where Chevron does business.
