Web Find: Mini Metro, a subway strategy game

It would be nice to actually to challenge yourself in planning and creating multiple subway lines in times wherein our own Metro Rails are slowly deteriorating. Introducing Mini Metro by Dinosaur Polo Club.

Before going through some details, here’s the trailer for the Alpha version of the game that can be played online for free.

Here is the game description according to its Steam Community page:

In Mini Metro, you take on the task of designing the subway layout for a rapidly expanding city. Your city starts with three stations. Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. Commuters travel along your lines to get around the city as fast as they can. Each station can only hold a handful of waiting commuters so your subway network will need to be well-designed to avoid delays.

The city is growing. More stations are opening, and commuters are appearing faster. The demands on your network are ever-increasing. You’ll be constantly redesigning your lines to maximise efficiency. The upgrades you earn every week will help immensely — as long as they’re used wisely.

Eventually your network will fail. Stations will open too quickly. Commuters will crowd the platforms. How long the trains keep running is up to you.

I’ve tried playing the Alpha game for a couple of times and I find myself hooked to it. It’s so minalistic and straight to the point. At first, you might struggle but as you restart you’ll get the hang of it.

The goal of the game is connect the stations that will pop up as you progress. You have to make sure that the volume on each line is properly serviced or else it’s game over.

You can try different methods that will properly suit your needs. A new locomotive will be rewarded “every week” that passed by in the game and an expansion is due. You can either choose to open a new line for your subway, a carriage for additional capacity for an existing line or a new tunnel to cross the lines on the river.

You may play the Alpha game here. The full game will soon be available for Mac, Windows, and Linux through Steam for $6.99.
