The launch of iHIMS (Integrated Hospital Information Management System) is a tremendous achievement and a milestone in the history of MakatiMed.
In an effort to improve hospital efficiency and ensure optimum patient care, Makati Medical Center rolled out iHIMS (Integrated Hospital Information Management System), an integrated system to manage patient services, including patient registration and administration, inpatient admission, discharge and transfer, appointment scheduling, outpatient management, and billing and cashiering.
The system, developed by Spanish IT company Indra, went live on April 15, 2013 in selected outpatient units, and became operational in all outpatient and inpatient units on April 14 this year.
MakatiMed entered into an agreement with Indra in 2011 to develop an integrated system that would replace MakatiMed’s 15-year-old Magic (outpatient) and Harmony (inpatient) systems.
Rosalie R. Montenegro, President & CEO of MakatiMed, said the launch of iHIMS, “a world-class hospital system”, was a tremendous achievement and a milestone in the history of MakatiMed.
“This will bring the hospital’s level of efficiency and patient service to new heights,” she said.
With iHIMS connecting the hospital’s outpatient and inpatient units, MakatiMed promises operational efficiency benefits to its patients. This includes centralized patient registration that gets rid of time wasted accomplishing detailed forms over and over for every diagnostic test availed each visit, elimination of unnecessary duplications in patient data, consistency and accuracy of patient data, ease in managing payments and transactions, and reduction in waiting time prior to discharge.
iHIMS is now also integrated with MakatiMed’s other existing information systems, such as the Laboratory Information System (LIS), the Radiology Information System- Picture Archiving Communications System (RIS-PACS), and the Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) system. SAP is used for financial and inventory-related transactions and reporting. RIS-PACS is a fully digital system set up in 2010 that is used by medical staff to view images and reports, improving accessibility and eliminating the need for paper and film.
MakatiMed’s Information and Communications Technology Division, together with Indra Philippines, will provide the necessary technical support for iHIMS, while the Service Operations and Quality Management Division together with the Nursing Services Division handled the training and process orientation.
