Exynos ModAP, Samsung’s first chipset with built-in LTE

Samsung has announced its newest mobile processor that comes with built-in LTE modem – the Exynos ModAP series.

It’s been known that Samsung depends on Qualcomm-made chipsets if it wants LTE in its products and only uses its own Exynos chipsets for non-LTE variants. That’s about to change as the Korean company has introduced the Exynos ModAP series that comes with integrated LTE.

The quad-core Exynos ModAP is the first generation of integrated LTE Modem-AP solution with advanced 4G LTE connectivity, built on 28nm HKMG Process. It supports 4G LTE Release 9 of 3GPP and Cat 4, at both duplex mode, FDD and TDD, in addition to legacy 2G and 3G mobile interfaces. It also supports 8 megapixel cameras with 1080p video recording at 30fps, and promises powerful perfomance with low power consumption.

Samsung did’t mention when the new chipset will rollout and on what devices. Technical specs are yet to be released so we’re yet to find out if it is meant for flagships or mid-tier devices.
