Sony Vaio Pro 11, Vaio Pro 13 in the flesh

This afternoon, we went to the Sony Store to check out some of the gadgets already in the market. The latest Intel Haswell-powered Vaio Pro was already there ad being sold at a starting price of 128,000Yen.

The basic configuration includes a Core i5-4200U 1.6GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD storage. That’s on top of the full HD 1080 IPS LCD touchscreen display on Windows 8.

The units are very light, even the 13.3-inch model, thanks to the carbon-fiber body. Some parts of the design were borrowed from the older Vaio ultrabooks but this one is much thinner. Despite that, Sony managed to include the regular-sized ports for the USB 3.0 and the VGA.

Sony VAIO Pro 11 specs:
11.6-inch full HD Triluminous touchscreen IPS LCD display @ 1920×1080 pixels

The Vaio Pro 13 has exactly the same options for the hardware specs except that it also allows up to 8GB of RAM instead of the max 4GB on the Vaio Pro 11.

The Vaio Pro 11 starts at 128,000yen for the Core i5, 4GB and 128GB combo while the Vaio Pro 13 of the same configuration starts at 138,000Yen. Upgrades are also available for up to 8GB RAM (+5,000 Yen) and up to 256GB SSD (+15,000 Yen).

The red color is a special edition model that sells for 190,000 yen.

I am told that Sony Philippines is set to launch the Vaio Pro series in the country on August 12. We’ll know the details and retail price by then.
