Canonical Ltd, has just announced its plans to develop the Ubuntu Edge – a dual-booting device that not only works as a smartphone but also as a desktop PC.
The Ubuntu Edge can dual-boot Ubuntu phone OS and Android, but when connected to a monitor it can transform into an Ubuntu PC, with a fully integrated desktop OS and shared access to all files.
The Edge sports a 4.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) screen which equates to 326ppi and mounted with sapphire crystal glass. It has an 8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front-facing, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, dual-band WiFi, and LTE. Powering the device is a quad-core CPU, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. As for the battery, the Edge will use a silicon-anode technology to power the beast inside it.

Specifications are subject to change.
However, the Ubuntu Edge is not out yet and Canonical is seeking your help through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to make it possible. The company is hoping to raise a whopping $32 Million in 30 days. It just started yesterday and at the time of writing $2.5 Million have been pledged so far. All of the funding goes directly towards producing the device for expected delivery in May 2014.
