It’s been speculated on for months, and now it’s official. Samsung announces the Galaxy S4 Active, the waterproof & dustproof variant of their flagship phone.
It packs similar internals as the Samsung Galaxy S4, from the 1.9GHz quad-core CPU to the 2,600mAh battery. In addition, it can be submerged in water for a maximum of 30 minutes as the headphone jack is also water-resistant.
The camera is a lesser 8-megapixel sensor, and an Aqua Mode is added to its list of camera shooting modes. Not to mention, the Super AMOLED display is now gone, replaced by a TFT LCD of the same resolution.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active specs:
5.0-inch TFT LCD @ 1920x1080p, 443ppi
1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU
Adreno 320
2GB RAM
16GB internal memory
MicroSD up to 64GB
HSPA+, 4G LTE
WiFi
Bluetooth
GPS w/ aGPS support
NFC
8MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash
2MP front-facing camera
139.7 x 71.3 x 9.1 mm (dimensions)
151 g (weight)
2600mAh battery
Android 4.2.2 Jellybean
With a few changes in specs and design (all physical buttons), we think it definitely takes the Samsung flagship a step forward.
Hands-on demonstrations will be seen on June 20, Samsung’s Galaxy & Ativ event. The S4 Mini will there too, and maybe even the rumored camera-centric S4 Zoom. Stay tuned for more coverage.
